Most of you that read this blog know that I am a shuttle tatter and I prefer to use Pop-A-Bobbin shuttles. I like the feel of the wood and the crochet hook in the end means one more thing I do not have to keep track of.
There is one thing about them, though, that I have issue with, but I have my own remedy to it. Sometimes my bobbin is just too tight. I don't know if it is just the opening in some of them is not as "large" or could it be I wind too much thread on the bobbin. I do use the Aerlit bobbins from Handy Hands.
When I find the bobbin to be too tight, I will gently use sandpaper or a dremel to widen the opening. I do this very lightly and slowly, testing with the bobbin. I have, however, made it a bit too loose a few times.
The fix for this is pretty simple. I use a 3/4" punch and make a circle of card stock. Then I use a 1/4" punch and make a hole inn the middle of that circle. The result looks like this. Paper washers I can use as shims. They restore the friction to the bobbin so it does not spin freely.
Just a tip in case someone else may have this problem.
