Getting Ready Already

If you have looked at much on this blog, you know I like to do 3D printing. Believe it or not, most of what I print is tatting related. In preparation for Tat Days in September I have been doing more of the "teaching" shuttles that I made for last year. I just spent about an hour and a half with a Dremel Tool cleaning them up. The printing leaves the bottom edge pretty rough, so I have to smooth it a bit.

I think this may be a good start. If you want some, come to Tat Days and get them. I would love to meet and tat with you. I wish everyone could come, but some of you live just too far away and there is water in the way so you can't just drive. To be honest, I will probably never see where a lot of you live because the cost of flying is just out of my price range. Thankfully, we can tat and chat on here.

Now on to the tatting I have to work on today. I think my fingers have quit vibrating from the grinding too. I have a couple of small things to finish. I will post those when I do.

  1. Love those shuttles. I'm a happy owner of one too. Tat days are great in spite of the water in the way of getting there!!!

  2. Oh wow! That is fabulous eye candy right there. It would be nice having a shuttle handy at any time. Do you find yourself using them accidentally? I couldn't resist the call of unused shuttles!!! I wish I could be at tat days, but I haven't even been to Shuttlebirds, and it's here in my home state! Maybe you'll see me next year.

    1. You should at least go to Shuttlebirds now and then, if you can find time. I am lucky that the Palmetto Tatters is only an hour and a half away. Give me a heads up if you go to Tat Days so I can be sure to say hello.

  4. Wow Ive never seen a shuttle made on a 3D printer. Would you consider shipping them to those of us who just can't get to Tat days. Unless I become the first 75 year old to swim the Atlantic I will never see one. Please tell us a price

    1. I ran the numbers through the postal service and through UPS. I cannot believe the cost to ship to the UK. The postal service is cheapest at $34 US. UPS wanted $126.
These shuttles are rather flimsy and will probably not stand up to hard use. I make 24 for about 20 cents in plastic. I give them away to beginners and those who teach beginners. They do work, though, and I have made things with them.
If you have access to a 3D printer I could e-mail you the stl file to use with it.

  6. Someday I do plan on going to Tat days, in the meantime I hope many new tatters are created from your 3D printed shuttles. The world needs more tatters!

  7. Unfortunately the big pond is in the way of visiting you and many tatters, the cost of flying over for visiting is a little too much, but I hope to visit one day, I want to visit my penfirend and see some of the wonderful places we see on TV

  8. Oh darn, I thought that bag of shuttles might have been for Shuttlebirds. LOL I'll have to find the ones I got at Palmetto's last year as I won't make it this year.
